OA is self-supporting, declining outside contributions. OA suggests that each group donate its excess funds to
OA's service bodies in the amounts below.

GPI Openings
There are currently three GPI Executive Board positions vacant (Chair, Recording Secretary, and Bylaws), six standing committee chairs vacant (Archives, Speakers Bureau, Public Information-Professional Outreach, VOR Editor, Corresponding Secretary, Website),
as well as openings for two Region 7 Representatives, three WSO Delegates and two Alternate WSO
Delegates. For more information on the requirements and duties of any of these positions, please see the GPI
Bylaws (click here). If you're
interested in filling one of these positions, please contact your intergroup representative or any intergroup
member. Remember, service helps us to keep what we have so generously been given.

- One hour and a willingness to carry the message of recovery in the community

Community Speakers are needed for any or all of the following:
- Speak about OA and your recovery at local high schools, middle schools, and colleges
- Visit patients in nursing homes, hospitals, and eating disorders units

- Be actively working the Twelve Step program of recovery for at least three (3) months
- Have a working knowledge of the Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous

- Commit to chair an institutional OA meeting at a Pittsburgh psychiatric facility
- This meeting occurs on the 1st Thursday of the month
- You will only commit to chair for one meeting, but you can commit to as many dates as you'd like
- You are responsible for finding a speaker for each meeting you chair.
- The meeting runs from 7p to 8p, you will need to arrive at 6:50p

- Be available to speak for 10-15 minutes at an institutional OA meeting at a Pittsburgh psychiatric facility
- This meeting takes place on the 1st Thursday of the month
- The meeting runs from 7p to 8p, you will need to arrive at 6:50p
- You will only commit to speak for one meeting, but you can commit to as many dates as you'd like

Other Service Suggestions and Opportunities

- Below are some suggestions for giving service at the group level:
- Call a newcomer or someone else from OA and see how they're doing
- Sign up to chair your home group or another meeting
- Be a sponsor
- Does your home group have a secretary, treasurer, literature person, Lifeline representative,
Intergroup representative, and newcomer greeter? If not, are you able to take on one of these
positions?
- Sign up for the speakers list. People on the speakers list may be contacted to give their story
at an OA meeting or marathon.
- Below are some suggestions on giving service to help spread the OA message to the public:
- Contact your intergroup or regional PI (Public Information) chairperson to see if there is any specific help they need on the committee
- Contact your intergroup or regional Professional Outreach or HIPM (Hospitals, Institutions, Professionals, and Military) chairperson to see if there is any specific help they need on the committee
- Talk to your healthcare providers (doctor, dentist, nutritionist, etc.) about OA
- Talk to you clergy about OA
- Donate old copies of Lifeline to your healthcare provider for their waiting room
- Donate a subscription to Lifeline to your local library or school
- Donate OA literature to your local library or school
- Contact the church/synagogue/community center/etc. where you meeting is held to have your meeting time
and location listed in their bulletins
- Print copies of the following Public Information Cards, and post them on local community bulletin boards (for example, at the grocery store, church/synagogue/temple/mosque, coffee shop, community center)

- Below are some suggestions on carrying the OA message to the still suffering compulsive overeater, food addict, bulimic, anorexic, or any other person suffering from an eating disorder:
- Be a sponsor
- Call someone you haven't seen at meetings in awhile, ask how they're doing, and let them know that you miss seeing them
- Work with your local or regional HIPM committee to sponsor meetings on eating disorder units
- If someone you know has trouble getting to meetings, offer to drive them
- If there are no meetings in your area, start one. See www.oa.org/group_support.html#start for information and suggestions on starting a meeting.
- Contact your intergroup or regional 12th Step Within committee to see what you can do to reach those still suffering within OA, or see www.oa.org/twelfth_step_within.html
- See if your meeting would be able to sponsor a workshop on relapse and recovery
- Participate in the Service by Mail/Email program. This program, sponsored by OA WSO, helps OA members reach out to one another. Participating members correspond by mail or e-mail to share recovery and to discuss working OA's Twelve-Step program of recovery with other OA members around the world. You can find an OA pen pal or a sponsor by mail, or you can sponsor another member by mail.
